Mother Earth the Magnificent
Do you ever wonder who you are? Where you come from? Why you’re on this earth? My name is Mei Sze (Macy) Phung. I'm a filmmaker, screenwriter, actress & humanitarian. I’m ¾ Chinese and 1/4 Vietnamese. My family comes from Guangxi, China and we also trace our roots to the rivers and mountains of Vietnam. My parents said we came from poverty, but as I uncovered more secrets by getting to truly know my parents and their story, I discovered the story is much more complicated and intricate. You see, my ancestors were from a period of War throughout the 1900s. Before World War I, my great-grandparents were wealthy business owners and landowners, but then came WWII and later the communism era in China. They chose to flee to Vietnam for refuge to escape the regime.
My father wanted freedom so he decided to immigrate to America, after first being a refugee in Philippines through the kind-heartedness of the United Nations. He finally arrived in America for the American Dream, and I was born in America. I graduated from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in World Arts and Cultures with a focus in film, dance, and political economy of development.
The Chinese are very traditional, especially my mother who maintained an ancestral altar that we offered incense to every night to honor our ancestors. Every day I passed by that altar. When I was just 17, I started receiving mystical revelations and dreams. After that, my life was never the same, and there was this anxiety that I was not at peace with myself, that there were mysteries not yet resolved, and that social justice must be in achieved in this world. That urged me to study even more fervently Buddhism, Tao, Confucius, and Lao Zi. I was taken back to the kings and emperors of dynasties past, and to the divinity of the celestial heavens.
Now we are in a time of modernity, and it is my mission as a filmmaker to bring back and preserve the magnificent world that once was, to bring World Peace, to unite the cultures of the world, and to promote peace and harmony. I can’t do it alone. Let’s sail this journey together in this abundant ocean together.
